Last Week of Gas Buses

I have been reliably informed that Anglian's MAN Ecocity Gas Buses will be withdrawn from service on Saturday 22nd October prior to transfer to Plymouth Citibus. This will therefore be your last chance to ride what I consider (and I'm not alone) the best single deck buses ever seen on these shores before a long journey is necessary. There will, of course be at least one commemorative post.

Anglian 100 in Great Yarmouth

  2. How did I guess your personal MAN Eco City Gasbus would feature on the blog? ;) I am guessing it may feature once or twice in the special feature soon..

    Look forward to it.

    1. Haha you won't believe this John but I only realised it was 100 when I had already posted it and was doing the caption! I went on 100 a couple of weeks ago and wasn't totally impressed by her condition.

  3. London's bus have seen a 3% reduction in usage in addition increased congestion is reducing mileage so that s a big hit to their revenues and with TfL's budget being cut it is likely that bus services will need to be cut. In reality many routes have far to many buses particularly off peak

    1. It is normally quicker to walk in Central London now than it is to catch the bus. Add to that the rear doors on Borismasters being shut making hop on hop off impossible once more - wasn't that the whole point of them in the first place - keep fit initiatives encouraging employees to walk and exercise more, not to mention the increase in cycle lanes and those figures don't surprise me. Oh - and the extortionate cost of a Travelcard these days is making people find other ways round. Apart from that it's all going swimmingly!

    2. I think the whole UK bus industry is turning into a complete mess with passengers having no idea what to expect in many cases.(Except perhaps their worst fears). Leisure travel is especially volatile and, I suspect, one of the first things to cut back for many normal people. Get the gear, and cycling and walking is free (and enjoyable). Bus, beat that!!!

    3. Cycling is always going to be a small niche market and cycling is what is adding to the congestion in London
I would turn Central London over to buses and Essential traffic only . Cycles would also in general be banned. That way a decent bus service could be provided. At present Central London is heading fast towards total grid lock even the Underground is running at about 110% capacity and I think they are being optimistic that Cross rail will help a lo much of Cross rail just takes over existing lines. The Piccadilly line may see some reduction in usage as Cross Rail will provide a faster link to and from Heathrow

  5. London has been getting most money from the treasury. That has been reduced .They have to operate in the real world and pay their own way .
